Here are some common questions we get at our laser hair removal Mississauga clinic:

What areas can be treated with laser treatment?

Laser treatments can remove hair from all parts of the body including the face, legs, arms, underarms, and back. It can also treat sensitive areas like the chest, nipples, and bikini line.

What do laser treatments feel like?

The laser hand piece cools and soothes as it glides along your skin. When the pulse of light is delivered, some patients experience a mild pinching or stinging sensation. No local anesthesia or pain medication is typically required; however, some patients may prefer to use a topical anesthetic when sensitive areas are treated. Any discomfort can and should be discussed with our qualified laser hair removal specialists so they can change the settings or the machine they use to reduce discomfort.

What type of laser equipment is used at your skin care clinic in Mississauga?

We use two brands of state-of-the-art laser equipment at BeauSkin Laser:

  1. CoolGlide Nd:Yag from Cutera - Learn more at www.cutera.com
  2. Starlux-500 from Palomar - Learn more at www.palomarmedical.com

How many treatments will I need?

Most areas require 5-8 treatments. However, the number of treatments required for optimal long-term benefits depends on multiple factors: hair thickness, the area treated and your hair's growth cycle. Interestingly, not all hairs are actively growing at the same time and actually go through three distinct phases: growth, regression, and resting. Laser hair removal works by disabling the hair that is principally in the active growth phase at the time of treatment. Since other hairs will enter this active growth phase at different times, additional treatments may be necessary to disable all of the hair follicles in a given area.

What happens after the treatment?

Immediately following your treatment, the area may appear a bit red and swollen. Three to seven days after treatment, you may experience what seems to be re-growth of hair. Most of these hairs are actually being shed as a result of your treatment and are not re-growing. Between treatments you should not wax or pluck your hair, but it is permissible to shave.

How does laser hair removal differ from waxing?

In simple terms, waxing is a temporary hair removal treatment (the hair will grow back), whereas laser hair removal is permanent. With laser treatment, you will initially see the hair grow back, but it will appear much lighter and eventually will no longer grow, ultimately leaving your skin hair free.

How much does laser hair removal cost?

Laser hair removal treatment costs vary for each client. The number of sessions required (as above) depend on many different variables – so to get an accurate pricing quote, a consultation is needed with one of our laser hair removal specialists. At this consultation, our specialist will assess your skin type, discuss the hair you want removed and will also perform a patch test to see how the skin/hair reacts. This will give us the information we need for a more accurate quote on the price of your specific treatment.

Does laser hair removal work on dark skin?

With new technology and machinery, it is now very possible that laser hair removal can work successfully on darker skin types – but a consultation would be needed to asses this before we begin.
