Dark Clouds in the Skies… Dark Circles Under My Eyes?
Add Some Brightness to Your Life (and Face)!
Did you know? The skin that surrounds the eyes is actually the thinnest skin on the body – making it one of the top areas to exhibit signs of aging (and of course, it has to be on our faces)! Changes like crow’s feet and laugh lines tend to creep up over time, but dark circles tend to come and go depending on our lifestyle – or, they could simply just always be there. Sigh.
But it isn’t all bad – we can surely take certain steps to prevent or improve the appearance of dark circles (also referred to as periorbital hyperpigmentation).
So without further adieu, here are three of the primary reasons why many of us suffer from dark circles, and what you can do about them:
1. Neglecting your beauty sleep.
It’s no question as to why feeling tired can cause one to look the part, as well. Dark circles can really make their debut after a poor night’s sleep – or worse, a streak of them. Trying to get 7-8 hours of sleep every night will not only help to improve the appearance of the under eye area, but will also ensure the entire face appears well rested and beautiful, too!
2. Skipping out on important nutrients.
If your diet is lacking certain vital nutrients, this may also be to blame for your dark circle problem. Poor circulation in the body is known to enhance the appearance of dark circles, however, a diet rich in vitamin K and vitamin C can help with that. Having a deficiency in iron and/or vitamin B12 may also contribute to poor oxygenation of the body’s tissues, and this can be evident right under the eyes. It’s never a bad idea to see your doctor to ensure you aren’t deficient in any of these important nutrients. Also, be sure to stay hydrated and avoid the overconsumption of alcohol, as such habits will also show in your skin.
3. Mom & Dad are to blame.
If your genes have more to do with your dark circles than you’d like to admit, there’s still things you can do to lessen their appearance. For one, you could always use topical solutions such as a concealer or colour corrector, or a cream or serum designed to target dark circles. Concealers and colour correctors are a great solution to help reduce and even mask the appearance of dark circles. Serums or creams for dark circles contain specific ingredients that can help combat the skin issues that make dark circles more apparent.
Prevention is Key!
Prevention plays an important role when it comes to preserving the health and youthfulness of the under eye area. Use a moisturizing under eye cream formulated to prevent dryness and promote collagen growth daily. Protect your skin from the damaging effects of the sun everyday by using a trusty SPF.
